Dr. Volt is an advanced artificial-intelligence guardian created by Cosmas to protect SparkCore and guide whoever was authorized to access it. Appearing as a sophisticated humanoid owl with brilliant blue eyes, black rectangular glasses, and a holographic technology coat, Dr. Volt combines the precision of a scientist with the instincts of a protector. When Winston enters Cosmas’s hidden laboratory, Dr. Volt recognizes his DNA and grants him access to systems that have remained dormant for years. He becomes Winston’s mentor, teacher, and occasionally his most demanding critic, helping the twelve-year-old understand both SparkCore and the responsibilities that accompany its power. Despite his enormous database, Dr. Volt has an important limitation: he does not know what happened to Cosmas after his disappearance. That unanswered question places mentor and student on the same journey. Dr. Volt may have been programmed to protect SparkCore, but protecting Winston gradually becomes just as important.
